Walking from the isolated Farm of Maes Y Garnedd, famous as the home of Colonel John Jones, brother in law of Oliver Cromwell, and signatory to the death warrant of Charles I. crossing open moorland in the ascent to the craggy summit of Rhinog Fawr, involves some scrambling. Descending via Gloyw Llyn (The sparkling lake), the route takes us back over open moorland to Maes y Garnedd.

Look out for the famous goats of the Rhinogydd on this walk.
