A short, steep climb to the little visited summit of Moel Offrwm with its ancient citadel and stronghold, a scheduled ancient monument close to the town of Dolgellau and overlooking the stunning Mawddach Estuary and unrivalled views of Cader Idris. Moel Offrwm actually consists of two hill forts located next to one another. The upper fort, thought to be the older site, is typical of other Iron Age sites from around the British Isles being a defended communal settlement. The lower fort was defensively very strong but could never have accommodated more than a handful of people. After enjoying these spectacular views we continue with a delightful walk along the many green paths that meander around the hills and wooded valleys in the wild and unspoilt area of Llanfachreth.
